In this five day workshop, I will guide you on a journey which starts with a photograph(s) or sketch(es) that will lead to you exploring different approaches and techniques to create one medium sized art quilt or a few smaller ones. My teaching method involves individually working with each student to help them realize their own unique artwork. I will bring some supplies such as paints and inks to demonstrate and teach techniques I use to create realistic interpretations of the landscapes I photograph. My own work is mostly spontaneously created, but I will also help you to complete pattern pieces when the need arises. By looking at the world through the eye of a photographer, you will learn some basics of composition and chiaroscuro (light and dark). In addition, I will show you how to create the illusion of depth and three-dimensionality using paints and inks.
