ANOTHER MYSTERY © 2007 My passion as a fiber artist is portraying landscapes in fiber. I was fortunate in 2005 to be chosen as an artist in residence in Balatonfured, Hungary. What inspired me during my residency most was the architecture. I lived in a guest house named Floras Fogado. This double door was on the side of the house, underneath the main floor. In the past, it may have been where the animals were housed at night which was the European tradition. I noticed it the first morning of my stay as I ventured out to explore the beautiful garden and photograph the intriguing weathered exterior of the house. I loved the old doors and windows and took lots of photos for future fiber art renderings. I did a small study of this doorway while in residence and the scene still captivates me urging me to explore the design aspects further. I never did open the door, so it remains a mystery. 32” X 24” Hand-dyed silks fabrics and fibers, cotton fabrics, fabric paints, organza, silk batting Free-motion machine quilted, 3D plants are hand applied EXHIBITIONS 2008 NICHE Award, Piece/Quilted category Originals 2007, NM Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Taos NM September - December 2007 Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta, Albuquerque NM, May 2007 $2100 |
