| TANZANIA REVERIE © 1993 Patricia Gould This quilt combines my love for travel with my love for fabric and quilting. While on a photo safari in Tanzania, I bought the batik fabric (the quilt back) just because it was beautiful. Two years later, the batik inspired me to express my experience of East Africa in a quilt. Until this time, I had only created abstract designs in my quilts. This was the first personal statement I transformed into a quilt and it serves not only as a reminder for myself and my husband of our wonderful journey, but also acts as a glimpse into the unique environs of East Africa for others. 52” X 78” cottons, cotton blends, polyesters, ultra-suede, beads, hand-painted details back of quilt is cotton batik from “Mosquito Creek” Tanzania polyester batting machine strip-pieced, hand appliquéd, hand quilted EXHIBITIONS Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival, February 1993, Williamsburg VA American Quilter’s Society Show, April 1993, Paducah KY All American Quilt Contest “If Quilts Could Talk”, June 1994, Dodgeville WI State Winner representing New Mexico Quilts: A World of Beauty, IQA, November 1994, Houston TX NOT FOR SALE |
