TREE ELECTRIFIED
© 2001  Patricia Gould

When lightning struck the tallest pine tree in our surrounding woods, the
moisture in the tree got so hot it boiled and exploded the tree within
seconds. When we got to the tree, the top half was gone, exploded into
pieces hundreds of yards away, and what was left standing was twisted,
mangled and ripped apart. This tree, being the tallest around, was
special to us since it identified where our house was when we hiked up in
the high country. I wanted to pay homage to this sentinel tree, which
looked like it suffered a painful death, unlike the slow demise of most
trees.
